“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.”
— Albert Einstein
Dear B.D. Community,
I would like to extend a personal welcome to you all
to the new journal of B.D. Somani’s Exploration in Advanced and Modern Science (BEAMS).
I am profoundly honored to address you as the Editor-in-Chief of this journal.
The idea to establish a science journal has been a cherished vision of mine for quite
some time and is anchored in my enduring fascination with all branches of science.
The significance of research has never been more apparent than in recent times. The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges; yet it was the ingenuity and perseverance of researchers across the globe that accelerated vaccine developments and yielded life-saving innovations. This monumental achievement not only highlighted the power of research but also underscored its capacity to save lives and foster global resilience.
The aim of this journal is to provide a platform for every student in our school to share their scientific endeavors and perspectives. It is my hope that this journal will serve as a beacon for the intellectually curious and a forum for meaningful discourse. Together, let us build a publication that is a reflection of our relentless quest for learning.
I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude to the extraordinary editorial team whose dedication, creativity, and vision have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition. I am equally thankful for my teachers, whose unwavering support and guidance have shaped both my passion and my role of Editor-in-Chief.
Yours sincerely,
Ananya Mehra
Editor-in-Chief
B.D. Somani International School
Yuvan Arya – Managing Editor
My name is Yuvan Arya and as the managing editor of BEAMS, I am deeply
passionate about all the branches of science, with a particular love for zoology
and astrophysics. I believe that science thrives on curiosity, and asking questions
is the essence of discovery. Besides exploring the wonders of the cosmos or understanding
the complexities of evolution, I love applying scientific principles to explain everyday
phenomena, such as my own subconscious decisions. I’m a strong advocate for using inquiry
to drive learning as well as understanding beyond the syllabus, and I’m looking forward to
fostering that same curiosity in others through our journal.
Vedant Choudhury – Physics Head
My name is Vedant Choudhury and I am the physics head of BEAMS. I love physics: for
the math, the theories, the equations—but that’s not all. I truly love it because it's
about explaining the beauty behind things we often take for granted; because it allows
me to explore the mechanics of the universe and explain the rules that govern our very
existence. From looking up at the blue sky and watching a plane fly by, to the complex
dance of planets orbiting a star, physics answers my questions, while incessantly allowing
me to ask countless more. Through my role, I hope to share my love for science, stir up
thought-provoking questions, and share updates on the latest exciting scientific discoveries.
Shrey Dalmia – Chemistry Head
My name is Shrey Dalmia and I am the chemistry head for BEAMS. The reason I decided
to apply for this role was purely because I believe chemistry is a subject that can be applied
anywhere in the world and is constantly around us. Besides having an immense amount of
interest in science, I’m also deeply interested in subjects like economics and global
perspectives, as I’m always curious about learning how the world works, both financially
and culturally. Other than my interests in studies, I’m also passionate about sports like
football and I’m the U17 football captain. I’m looking forward and am extremely excited
to help put together BEAMS!
Ishaan Kejriwal – Co-Head of Biology
My name is Ishaan Kejriwal and as the co-head of biology for BEAMS, I am passionate
about contributing to the scientific community. While I enjoy exploring diverse fields
like photography and business studies, biology captivates me due to its ever-evolving
nature and potential to solve global challenges. I also enjoy writing, using it as a
creative tool to communicate opinions and knowledge. Alongside my leadership role in
the journal, I pursue football and guitar, balancing my interests in both science
and the arts.
Vedant Pandit – Co-Head of Biology
My name is Vedant Pandit and I am the co-head of biology for BEAMS. I’ve always
been fascinated by the science that shapes our world, especially in the fields of
biology and psychology. For me, science is a way of exploring the unknown and in the
process unravelling thousands of more questions—and that’s my favourite part about it.
The deeper I dive into science, the more I realise there’s always more to discover, and
that’s what keeps me hooked—there’s always another question waiting.
Mahika Jain – Co-Head of Design & Layout
My name is Mahika Jain and I am the co-head of design and layout. I have a deep
passion for creative designs and a relentless drive to bring innovative ideas to the
journal. My role allows me to blend my love for design with the fascinating world of
science, capturing the attention of our audience but also inspiring curiosity and
understanding. It’s exciting to be at the intersection of science and design, where
I can contribute to the way groundbreaking advancements are presented to the world.
Vipanshi Agarwal – Co-Head of Design & Layout
My name is Vipanshi Agarwal and I am the co-head of design and layout. I am motivated
to contribute to the BEAMS science journal by my passion for art and design. I believe
that science and creativity work together to produce innovative responses and ideas.
I’m best at putting ideas into visual order and turning abstract ideas into eye-catching
graphics. By fusing my passion for science with my artistic abilities, I hope to uplift
others and encourage a greater understanding of both fields.
