Introducing BEAMS: a BDSIS student-led science journal

Fueling Curiosity, Inspiring Discovery

At B.D. Somani International School, inquiry and exploration are at the heart of learning. It is with great excitement that we introduce B.D. Somani’s Exploration in Advanced and Modern Science (BEAMS)—a student-led science journal that provides a dedicated platform for research, innovation, and scientific discussion.

BEAMS is more than just a journal; it is a testament to the relentless curiosity of our students and their passion for uncovering the mysteries of science. Through this initiative, students will share their insights, research, and breakthroughs, fostering a collaborative scientific community within our school and beyond.

A Vision for Scientific Inquiry

In a letter to the B.D. Somani community, BEAMS’ Editor-in-Chief, Ananya Mehra, reflects on the journal’s origins and its greater purpose:

“The idea to establish a science journal has been a cherished vision of mine for quite some time. This journal is a celebration of our shared curiosity, a space where ideas are kindled, hypotheses are challenged, and research transforms the way we see the world.”

The inaugural issue of BEAMS is themed “The Future of Science,” featuring thought-provoking articles on cutting-edge topics like artificial intelligence, gene editing, time crystals, green hydrogen, and more. Each edition of the journal will spotlight a new theme, encouraging students to delve into diverse scientific domains.

What BEAMS Aims to Achieve

BEAMS is driven by the mission to:

Encourage research and innovation by empowering students to pursue original scientific inquiries.

Foster collaboration across disciplines, allowing students to share ideas and engage in meaningful discussions.

Develop analytical thinking skills that will serve students beyond school and into their academic and professional futures.

Expand the reach of student-led research by sharing BEAMS with the wider scientific community.

As science continues to evolve, BEAMS will serve as a legacy of exploration, inspiring generations of students to question, experiment, and discover.
