B.D. Somani International School: House Elections 2021

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

From “Miss, when do we send in our speeches?”, “Miss, will this idea be good as a campaign?” to “Miss, when will the results be out?”, the excitement was real!
For the first time ever, B.D. Somani International School opened its doors for House Leadership positions to our Middle School students. The position of Junior Captain was up for grabs for Grade 7 students of the Middle School. The purpose of doing this was to encourage cross sectional collaboration in leadership among students, which would give them an opportunity to hone this skill, right from an early age.
The response we received was phenomenal, and the candidates left no stone unturned in campaigning for their position through the daily bulletin, visiting tutor groups, creating posters and through their appeal speeches. Here are some excerpts from our Grade 7 winning candidate speeches:

“Hi my name is Samaara and I am running for junior captain. I'm from Eagle House and I just wanted to say that if you voted for me I would make sure that your talents be it photography, singing, dancing, art literally anything they would each be individually appreciated. Leaders are said to be the people who strive to win but I think what they meant is leaders strive to unite. I believe in you, I believe in the eagles. Remember I will be there for you and when I say I will be there for you I promise I mean it. My brother is Kabir Oberoi so trust me I know how to resolve tough situations. Have a great day and hope you vote for me :D”

"The greatest leader is not the one who does the greatest things, he/she is the one who gets the people to do the greatest things" - Ronald Reagan. Vote for me as I am all about equality and giving everyone a voice. I will encourage the people to do the greatest things.”

“Hey everyone, my name is Aanya Kapadia and I am a seventh-grader, from the Falcon House. I am running for Junior Captain. If I am elected as junior captain I will put in my 100% in everything the House does. I will additionally integrate suggestions for something fun for the house once in a while like a film festival. I will voluntarily take all suggestions and make the House feel more comfortable. I hope you vote for me, but vote for whoever you think is suitable for this position. May the best candidate win.”

“I have three precious things, which I cherish The first is gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility, I am gentle so I can be bold; I am frugal and so I can be liberal; I avoid putting yourself before others to become a leader amongst my peers! Vote for me Aaryan Shrinath (Grade 7B) - for Junior Captain, Hawk House

Along with our eager candidates, all our secondary students responded with equal fervour and proved that there’s no such thing as a vote that doesn’t matter. With almost cent percent attendance, the elections were conducted under the supervision of our House Mistresses Ms. Nipa (Eagle), Ms. Maria (Kite), Ms. Khushboo (Hawk) and House Master Mr. Rasik (Falcon) who presented the appeal videos and shared the Google Form over Google Meet to ensure a transparent and fair Election process.
The results were announced on the 12th of February, 2021, by the Secondary School Principal, Dr. Colleen Boyett, in her Friday email to the parents. We proudly introduce to you all the House Leadership Team for the academic year 2021-2022.
We are very proud not only of our winners, but also of our participants who had the courage to nominate themselves for this position. It’s not always about winning or losing, but it’s about playing the game!
