What Makes a Good Education? Dr Geoffrey Fisher on Pedagogy, Curriculum, and Progress in Schools

In this month’s vlog, Dr Geoffrey Fisher dives deep into a thought-provoking topic: What makes a good education? He shares insightful conversations around pedagogy, curriculum development, assessment practices, and the importance of creating a classroom environment that fosters learning, inclusion, and personal growth.

Dr. Fisher outlines the four key components of effective learning: pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and classroom dynamics. He highlights how these aspects have been central to the school’s professional development over the past five years.

The vlog also addresses the evolving role of IT and AI in education, and B.D. Somani’s decision to ban mobile phones to encourage more meaningful interactions among students.

Additionally, Dr Fisher provides updates on the current global review of the IB Diploma and discusses the school’s commitment to progressive education in the primary years.

As we navigate a festive season packed with celebrations, Dr Fisher reassures us that B.D. Somani continues to maintain academic progress amidst the excitement of Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, and Christmas.

Tribes for Good: Community Project

Through our partnership with Tribes For Good, Grade 11 student Vipanshi Agarwal designed and led a series of workshops for women with skills in beauty and makeup — combining financial literacy, confidence-building, and awareness of cruelty-free practices. What she found was that the skills were already there. What was missing was someone connecting those skills to the idea of income. This is her reflection on what it means to create impact, and what she learned when she stopped trying to teach and started listening.
