Inspiring International Day Celebration at B.D. Somani

International Day at B.D Somani is a grade 11 student-led event involving the whole school community including grades 6 to 11 students, Student Councils, House Councils, our ground staff, some of the NGOs our school is linked to, parents, and Primary student council members.
This year, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of International Day on Thursday 13th April 2023. The grade 11 students under the guidance of their language teachers planned exciting activities on the theme of Ethics.
Students explored this theme through activities such as skits, World language quizzes, foreign and Indian language lessons including, for the first time, sign language, speeches such as’TED TALKS’ in French and Spanish, World Languages TOK workshops, and Movie workshops in different languages.
Our day ended with the Middle School ‘FIFA’ matches, our Annual BD vs OSCAR, and Gr12 vs BD teachers’ matches.
During the football matches, Junior and Senior Student councils raised funds through bake sales and games whilst members from Hamari Silai, Vatsalya, and Oscar had their own stalls selling beautiful handmade products.
Our grade 11 students’ reflections summarize this event: they felt that the day helped them develop their leadership skills, think differently taking into account multiple cultures and perspectives, and above all inspire their juniors.

Introducing BEAMS Volume II: Science Inside Out

The BDSIS student-led science journal returns with Volume II: Science Inside Out, the work of a team of editors and designers from Grades 9 and 11, now available in the school library and online.

Tribes for Good: Community Project

Through our partnership with Tribes For Good, Grade 11 student Vipanshi Agarwal designed and led a series of workshops for women with skills in beauty and makeup — combining financial literacy, confidence-building, and awareness of cruelty-free practices. What she found was that the skills were already there. What was missing was someone connecting those skills to the idea of income. This is her reflection on what it means to create impact, and what she learned when she stopped trying to teach and started listening.
